We have positions available for two experienced underwriters, or willing trainees, to join Paragon Personal Finance. With both contracts offered on a permanent basis, this is a great opportunity for you to become an integral member of our busy second charge underwriting team. Purpose of the role

Responsible for the underwriting and completion of second charge loan applications, you will be required to develop an excellent working knowledge and understanding of criteria and procedures, and be an approachable referral point for all colleagues and intermediaries.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Process second charge applications from receipt through to completion in accordance with procedures and audit requirements
  • Deliver decisions directly to intermediaries in an empathetic, confident and knowledgeable manner
  • Understand the relationship with intermediaries and the impacts their actions have on whether an applicant is treated fairly throughout the process
  • Work quickly and carefully, conveying a sense of urgency to intermediaries and customers alike whilst remaining inquisitive, alert and maintaining attention to detail
  • Contact applicants by telephone and carry out Anti-Money Laundering and Fraud Prevention checks
  • Review Land Registry reports to identify potential title issues
  • Process certain post-completion queries and communicate effectively with customers, solicitors and lenders
  • Ensure that all decisions comply with current underwriting criteria and all departmental and external service standards are adhered to
  • Understand Treating Customers Fairly objectives and how they impact on any decisions you make

Qualifications and experience

Grade C or above GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential.

Working hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (one hour for lunch). A flexible approach to working hours is required.

Relevant training will be provided.
